MORE ABOUT FRONT RANGE
1989-2004

Left to Right: Bob Dick, Bob Amos, Ron Lynam, Mike Lantz
From their first  self-released CD THE ROAD HOME in 1989, to their last studio CD, SILENT GROUND on Sugar Hill Records released in 2000 and finally their live album THE REAL THING in 2003, concerts and festival appearances across the USA and in Europe established Front Range as one of the hottest and most creative bands on the bluegrass scene. Through the course of each of their  seven CDs, Front Range continued to fine tune and define their sound - an invigorating mix of contemporary and traditional music, and with each release the band reached impressive milestones along the road to success.
Albums and songs by Front Range were mainstays of the National Bluegrass Survey's TOP 30 singles chart, and TOP 10 album chart. In 1995 Front Range was awarded the Best Gospel Recording Of The Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association for their gospel album, One Beautiful Day.
Front Range's last studio album ,
SILENT GROUND , received rave reviews!!!

From the November 2000 issue of Bluegrass Unlimited magazine:

"one of the most enjoyable recordings in some time"

"Strong original material sets Front Range apart from most other bands .."

"Bob Amos continues to establish himself as one of the foremost songwriters in bluegrass today."

The album includes five new songs by Bob , a great new swing song by Ron Lynam, plus a new a capella version of an old classic, some hot new instrumentals and an incredibly eerie cover photo....

Ramblin' On My Mind , the 1997 release from Front Range, packs power, depth and emotion. The album spent several weeks in the Top Ten of the Gavin Americana Chart, and held at #3 on the National Bluegrass Survey Album Chart (as reported by Bluegrass Unlimited magazine) for several months.

With an arsenal of original material and unique traditional pieces, Ramblin' On My Mind combines innovative arrangements with potent vocals, capturing the soulfulness and power of traditional bluegrass while subtly stretching the boundaries into the realms of folk, swing, country, gospel, celtic and the blues. The result is a fresh, well-honed contemporary sound with varying textures and moods, but always alive with passion and conviction.

Front Range's strong suit was its vocal power (featuring Bob Amos' soulful lead singing and the band's stellar harmonies) and its exceptional songwriting. Amos wrote a large portion of the band's material, and his songs have been covered by other artists, including Where The Wild River Rolls, recorded by Hot Rize. The band's highly selective use of cover material was another testament to its growth. Their rendition of blues legend Robert Johnson's Ramblin' On My Mind gave this classic a hardcore bluegrass arrangement - the result was pure acoustic roots power.
Front Range established a reputation as a terrific performance band. Their refreshing eclectic blend of material, combined with their easy going humorous interactions with each other and the audience made for a great show.

Front Range was simply one of the most entertaining and dynamic bands on the bluegrass music scene, and they won the hearts of audiences from all across the acoustic music spectrum with exceptional original material, stellar vocal work, innovative arrangements and an engaging stage show.
