SONG LYRICS from REELS OF LIFE

1. Can't Have It All
(Robert C. Amos, Stark Brook Music, BMI)

Midnight, headlights pointing home, I don't mind driving alone,
but these old wheels won't take much more of this
Winter's in, heater's out,  I stay  warm  just thinking about
how I still love the first girl that I kissed

And it's alright, it's ok,
Can't have it all it's plain to see
It's alright, it's ok,
I love what I've got, and that's enough for me

Face in the wind, head in the stars, up on my best friend's handlebars
Ten year's worth of flying without wings
When the skeptics said it cannot be, they didn't understand
you see, we knew the truth, but to dream was everything

And it's alright, it's ok,
Can't have it all it's plain to see
It's alright, it's ok,
I love what I've got, and that's enough for me

Sixteen years and running late, the first to fall, but the last to date,
a wordless wonder when it came to romance,
cause I had no tales, I had no past,  just a yearning soul and a heart like glass
that was willing to risk it all, if given the chance

And it's alright, it's ok,
Can't have it all it's plain to see
It's alright, it's ok,
I love what I've got, and that's enough for me

Not all dreams are realized, some are granted, some denied
You cannot have it all, and that's a fact
But I thank the Lord for all I have cause I'm still in love and I still love to laugh,
and a fellow could do a whole lot worse than that

And it's alright, it's ok,
Can't have it all it's plain to see
It's alright, it's ok,
I love what I've got, and that's enough for me

2. Grandfather Pine
(Robert C. Amos, Stark Brook Music, BMI)

Grandfather Pine was old before I was young
No one will ever know all of the seasons he has grown upon
Towering above his leaf covered world
Home to generations of ravens and squirrels
And one young boy who spent more than a little of his time
with Grandfather Pine

His branches were the measure as my journey up to manhood did begin
And from his lofty heights I battled countless pirates and ruffians
And on a bank of golden pine needles I learned of love
As dappled moonlight shone through the green boughs up above
You could say that I grew up in body, heart, soul, and mind
with Grandfather Pine

Long ago mighty giants covered every acre of this land
But when the settlers came, very few were left to stand
But one tree was spared from the cold loggersís axe
It might have been to young at that time, or perhaps
They left it there so that one day someone would stare in wonder at that tree
Someone like me

Grandfather Pine was old before I was young
And he is older still, now that my climbing days are gone
But all that is precious and sacred to me
The wonder of life, love, and family
Can all be seen together in the simple stoic beauty that I find
in Grandfather Pine

3. Blood Red Rose
(Robert C. Amos, Stark Brook Music, BMI)

Red was the color of the rose that she wore,
as we faced our last embrace standing by the door
But as I turned I only yearned to keep my eyes ahead
And with the day I rode away, as the night sky turned to red

Down the road a mile from home, a pain ran cross my chest
And there inside my coat did find that blood red rose was pressed
I kept it there, so to bear the petals and the thorns
And there it stayed both night and day, until this very  morn

Glory, fame and honor came upon the battlefield
Fired by unyielding pride and fantasies of steel
But here alone I find theyíve flown, Iím left with only love
and longing for the one who wore the rose as red as blood

And when you find these words of mine pinned here upon my chest
Promise me one final deed, it is my last request
And to my bride take what I write so she will understand
And give my love the remnants of this rose within my hand

Red was the color of the rose that she wore
As we faced our last embrace, standing by the door
So when you find her tell her I forever more shall be,
dreaming of her precious love, and the rose she gave to me

4. Gravitational Pull
(R. Drexel Rayford, Vagrants Chapel Music, BMI)

There's a reason why a wolf pack howls at the moon
Deep inside their primal brains runs a DNA tune
And the reason that the tides keep rising to fall
Is the grand gravitational pull of it all
That's the reason

And the reason why boys keep falling for girls
Deep inside their primal brain runs a DNA curl
And the reason why the universe won't fly apart
Is the grand gravitational pull at its' heart
That's the reason

But there's a reason that reason can't know
A conversation where words won't go
Yeah there's a reason that reason can't know
It stands to reason

And the reason why he loves the line of her neck
Deep inside his primal brain, it calls for them to connect
And the reason why he longs to hold her like this
Is the grand gravitational pull of her kiss
That's the reason

But there's a reason that reason can't know
A conversation where words won't go
Yeah there's a reason that reason can't know
It stands to reason

And the reason why I knew you were just what I sought
Deep inside my primal brain you simply filled up my thoughts
And the reason why the years have found us hand in a glove
Is the grand gravitational pull of our love
That's the reason

But there's a reason that reason can't know
A conversation where words won't go
Yeah there's a reason that reason can't know
It stands to reason

5. Reflections
(Robert C. Amos, Stark Brook Music, BMI)

Who is that young guy in the picture
Is that me?
And how much older  am I now
Lord it can't be
Ten more than twice I'm told
Well, Iím much to young to be that old

Seasons come, seasons go
Somehow I feel the same inside
But deeper down I know
The truth is out there lurking and it will not be denied
But as long as I don't look in the mirror, I feel fine
Yeah  as long  as I don't look in the mirror, I feel fine

I skip reflections in the morning
Most every day
But once one caught me without warning
Shoulda looked away
I chanced a glance only to see
My father's face was in there looking out at me

Seasons come, seasons go
Somehow I feel the same inside
But deeper down I know
The story's always better when you don't know the last line
And as long as I don't look in the mirror, I feel fine
Yeah  as long as i don't look in the mirror, I feel fine

Seems I've been running every day
Yes it's true
To or from what I canít say
Wish I knew
But if truth is just a curse
Then running away from it can only be worse

Seasons come, seasons go
But I am still the same inside
But deeper that I go
And I know the big guy's up there watching over his design
So even if I look in the mirror
I feel fine
Yeah  you know even if I look in the mirror
I feel fine

6. Can't Find A Way
(Robert C. Amos, Stark Brook Music, BMI)

By the fire
my guitar and a well worn wooden chair
Stare at the flames
and search in vain for the words that are not there
I just sit and watch as the embers die
I can't find a way to say goodbye

I asked my muse
but she refused to help me exorcise this ghost
What a surprise
that she'd deny me just when I need her the most
Just an old tattered book
with no words inside
I can't find a way to say goodbye

Looking for a light in the dark
Gotta find a way to write you out of my heart

Stir the coals
and sit alone in silence
There's no song
Just empty space
There's not a trace or an echo of what has gone
Just a wing-clipped bird looking at the sky
I can't find a way to say goodbye

7. Watching It
(Robert C. Amos, Stark Brook Music, BMI)

Living like a shadow, watch it go by
Lurking in the dark, longing for the light
Check on the time, see how it flies
Life goes by and you're just watching it

Choose any lifestyle, that you see
Live it through another, risk free
No chance to take, no place to be
Life goes by and you're just watching  it

Put up with nothing, put up your feet
Watch all the world, from your favorite seat
Click on your brain, and hit delete
Life goes by and you're just watching  it

And isn't it a bit bizarre
Life goes by and there you are
Never taking any part
Are you satisfied just watching it
Just watching it

Living like a shadow, watch it go by
Lurking in the dark, longing for the light
Check on the time, see how it flies
Life goes by and you're just watching it

Wake up
You gotta  jump in to it
Don't watch it go by
You gotta jump in

8. Reels Of Life
(Robert C. Amos, Stark Brook Music, BMI)

In the morning, as I watch you run  down the meadow like a bounding fawn
It seems that you'll be forever young, when I know it's not the case
For a time will surely come to be when you won't be running back to me
And a wave from you will be all I see, as you turn to make your way

The images are flying by, they never stay the same
The reels of life are rolling  and we cannot freeze the frame
I long to slow the seasons down and cherish every one
But they slip right through my hands, just like the sand you play upon

In the wonder of the noonday light, when the future lies within your sight
You'll be dreaming of the summer nights, and the days you'll call your own

So let us walk together down this pathway while we can
And I will be beside you, when you reach out for my hand
And I'll hold yours in my own, the way I've held it from the start
And when it's time to let it go, I will hold you in my heart

When the evening brings an autumn chill, I will see you in the meadow still
I imagine that I always will, anytime I close my eyes

The images are flying by, they never stay the same
The reels of life are rolling  and we cannot freeze the frame
So I'll hold your hand in mine, the way I've held it from the start
And when it's time to let it go, I will hold you in my heart

9. Brazil
(R. Drexel Rayford/Robert C. Amos,  Vagrants Chapel Music BMI/Stark Brook Music BMI

A balmy evening is gently falling
Distant birds in the forest calling
I have to leave but instead I'm stalling
I don't wanna go away so soon from Brazil

Southern Cross in a starry  night sky
Fishing lights on the bay like fireflies
Silky  voices sing soft lullabies
I don't wanna go away so soon from Brazil

Rolling  waves of the South Atlantic
whisper on the sand, It's so romantic
They  drown out the noise of my life so frantic back home
Yellow  moonlight glints and glimmers
on the wakes of some nighttime swimmers
makes it painful for me to remember home

But everything would be so fine if I lived in Brazil
I think I'll leave it all behind and move to Brazil

Ditch the house and the car and cell phone
Tell the boss that Iím not coming home
Buy a fishing boat
and a little place in the peaceful hills of Parana

Maybe I'll meet a dark haired lady
And when the evenings are slow and shady
Weíll stroll together hand in hand
Through the stands of fragrant eucalyptus trees

The balmy breezes become hypnotic
And Portuguese sounds so exotic
Tudo Bem, Tudo bon, que Deos abencao

Finally have some time for life if I moved to Brazil
Oh everything would be alright if I lived in Brazil

You know I'm liking it more already
Just thinking about it makes me heady
My will is strong and my aim is steady now

I think I'll leave it all behind and move to Brazil
But everything would be so fine if I lived in Brazil

Ooo la la la la, I'd like to move to Brazil
Ooo la la la la, I think Iíll move to Brazil
Ooo la la la, I'm gonna move to Brazil

10. Like I Do
(John Simmons, Shedsongs Publishing, BMI)

Good to see you again, it's been a while
Good to hear your voice and see you smile

As for me, well, I don't have a clue
I just know it feels so wonderful when I'm with you

No one will love you like I do
No one will love you like I do
Tell you, no one's got the love
except for the one above, like I do

Well, have a dance with him, that's ok
I don't think he means well, and he lives too far away

Never thought I'd be the jealous kind
Well maybe  just a little
Cause your always on mind

No one will love you like I do
No one will love you like I do
Tell you, no one's got the love
except for the one above like I do

We both had time to live and learn, to love and hate
Just wanna be with you and leave the rest to fate
Thereís nothing wrong with taking time
Cause being without you baby is such a crime

No one will love you like I do
No one will love you like I do
I'll tell you, no one's got the love
except for the One above like I do

11. You Don't Have To Tell Me
(Robert C. Amos, Stark Brook Music, BMI)

You don't have to tell me that you love me
True love isn't hard to recognize
You don't have to say you'll never leave
Cause I can see forever in your eyes

You don't need words, to understand
what we both know  is real
Cause anytime I take your hand
I know exactly how you feel

Darlin',
You don't have to tell me that you love me
True love isn't hard to recognize
You don't have to say you'll never leave
Cause I can see forever in your eyes

You know I like it when you say it
Any hour of the day
But sometimes you say it best
When you just look at me that way

Darlin',
You don't have to tell me that you love me
True love isnít hard to recognize
You don't have to say youíll never leave
Cause I can see forever in your eyes

There are some things we know from the start
You don't need words when you speak with your heart

You don't have to tell me that you love me
True love isnít hard to recognize
You don't have to say you'll never leave
Cause I can see forever in your eyes

You don't have to tell me that you love me
Cause I can see forever in your eyes

12. Walk Away
(R. Drexel Rayford, Vagrants Chapel Music, BMI)

I never thought I'd be so disillusioned
The movies that I love don't end this way
She gets on the train pulls out
and leaves me with these tracks
And nothing left to do but walk away

At the quick lunch stand there's an old man selling papers
Heís got foldout girls hung out on display
And stumbling down those exit stairs I hear that whistle blow
I've got nothing left do but walk away

It's late now in the nighttime
My eyes begin to burn
My thoughts go slow, my head begins to ache
thoughts of her confuse me and the right phrase just wonít turn
I reckon all my reasons fade away
I reckon all my reasons fade away

Words get tossed around like leaves in autumn
And love becomes a pretty  word to say
God knows she knew how much I hate decisions
She had nothing left to do but walk away

It's late now in the nighttime
My eyes begin to burn
My thoughts go slow, my head begins to ache
thoughts of her confuse me and the right phrase just wonít turn
I reckon all my reasons fade away
I reckon all my reasons fade away

I never thought I'd be so disillusioned
The movies that I love don't end this way
She gets on the train pulls out
and leaves me with these tracks
And nothing left to do but walk away
I've got nothing left to do but walk away
I've got nothing left to do but walk away

13. Distant Harmony
(Chris Pritchard /Bob Amos, Alsoran Music, BMI/Stark Brook Music, BMI)

Every now and then, caught up in my what ifs and might have beens
Watching good intentions slip through my fingers
then again I keep holding on to old songs and distant harmony
I keep holding on to you and me

Running out of time as the years go by
By and by,  when the words won't come
When my race is run,
you will find me holding on to old songs and distant harmony
I'll be holding on to you and me

As the tides flow  in and out
We shall take what comes
In my mind there is no doubt
We'll keep holding on

Running out of time as the years go by
By and by,  when the words wonít come
when my race is run,
you will find me holding on to old songs and distant harmony
I'll be holding on to you and me
